Authorities in Australia's Queensland state on Saturday caught and killed two tiger sharks in Whitsunday Islands area, just days after a 46-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl were separately attacked by sharks there within 24 hours, local media reported. Fisheries department officers shot the two tiger sharks, including one estimated to be more than four meters long, after the marine predators were netted in Cid Harbour. On Wednesday evening, a shark mauled the Australian woman swimming in the area. On Thursday, the girl from New Zealand suffered serious leg injuries from a similar attack. Both victims were hospitalized and had multiple blood transfusions and emergency surgery to stabilize them. The attacks prompted Australian authorities to advise tourists against swimming in the area.
