Campaign focus on economic issues vital to black community

16/6/2019 1:29
It's a campaign focus this weekend on economic issues important to the black community for some of the Democratic presidential candidates. A forum in Charleston, South Carolina, on Saturday is attracting Sens. Cory Booker of New York and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts as well as Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana, and a former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke. The Black Economic Alliance says the discussion will center on expanding economic opportunity for black Americans. Booker and O'Rourke also met with striking McDonald's workers in the Charleston area who want the company to allow its employees to organize. Buttigieg planned to address a rally moments before the forum started. A $15 national minimum wage has become a popular Democratic campaign promise, but the party itself is split over putting it in place.
