The facade lighting of the Kremlin was turned off on Saturday evening for an hour as a part of the Earth Hour global environmental event. At 8:30 p.m. Moscow Time (1730 GMT), the external lighting of the Russian White House also went out. Initiated by the World Wildlife Fund in 2007, Earth Hour has become a popular movement worldwide. On every last Saturday of March, individuals, communities, enterprises and government departments around the globe are encouraged to turn off their lights for an hour, with the purpose of inspiring reflections and actions regarding environmental issues.
