Authorities have set on fire 10 tonnes of illicit drugs in Afghanistan's western Nimruz province, according to provincial director for counter-narcotics Abdul Wasi Raihan on Sunday. The contraband, which included heroin, opium poppy, hashish and other objects used in manufacturing heroin, had been collected from across the province over the past four months and was burned publicly on Saturday, he said. In April 2022, the Afghan caretaker government banned poppy cultivation, drug processing, and drug trafficking. Since then, the administration has been striving to rid Afghanistan of the drug menace.
