Arab League condemns deadly drone strike in Sudan's South Kordofan

8/12/2025 7:24
The Arab League on Sunday condemned the killing of civilians in Kalogi city, Sudan's South Kordofan state, after a drone strike earlier this week killed at least 114 people, including 63 children.

In a statement, the Cairo-based pan-Arab body described the attack as a blatant breach of international humanitarian law and a threat to Sudan's unity, and called for independent investigations and accountability.

The death toll from the strike, which took place on Thursday, has risen to 114, with about 71 injured,

Sudanese authorities have accused the opposition Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) of coordinating with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to carry out the strike, which they said targeted a civilian area.

But neither the RSF nor the SPLM-N has commented on the strike.

Fighting between Sudan's army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, creating one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

UN agencies have warned that violence in the Kordofan region has recently escalated, driving large-scale displacement and civilian suffering.
