Iraq, Syria agree to form joint committees to boost ties, cooperation

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Syrian foreign affairs chief Asaad Hassan al-Shibani in Damascus on Monday to discuss boosting bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across a range of sectors, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said.



During the meeting, the two sides agreed to form a specialized joint committee covering energy, agriculture, water, transport, and border ports to advance cooperation and enhance mutual interests, read a ministry statement.



They also agreed to establish a high-level joint coordination committee to oversee the implementation of bilateral cooperation outcomes and coordinate efforts across multiple fields, read the statement.
