15 killed, 1 seriously injured in Guinea road accident

A road accident claimed 15 lives and left one person seriously injured in Guinea's Mamou Region, about 300 km northeast of Conakry, in the early hours of Monday, according to local media reports.



The accident occurred at around 1 a.m. Monday in rainy conditions on a stretch of road with a series of sharp bends in Diarabaka, a locality near Mamou, the capital of Mamou Region, following a violent collision between a passenger vehicle and a cargo truck.



The passenger vehicle was carrying 16 people, many of them schoolchildren traveling to reunite with their families during the school holidays. The sole survivor, who was seriously injured, was rushed to hospital for treatment.
