Man killed in second suspected mistaken identity Sydney shooting

A man has died after he was shot in the second suspected mistaken identity attack linked to organized crime in Sydney in two days.



Police in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said in a statement that a man believed to be in his 40s was shot outside a home in Merrylands West, about 23 km west of central Sydney, around 3:15 p.m. local time on Wednesday.



He was treated by ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.



Speaking to reporters on Wednesday night, Superintendent Simon Glasser said that the victim did not live at the home where the shooting occurred and had no connection to organized crime.



He said that the residents of the home were well known to the police for organized crime connections.



"Tragically, that is a possibility that the wrong person has been shot by these offenders," he said.



"This is a highly dangerous and reckless act that's been carried out here on a public street."
