US Treasury's Bessent will meet with China's He Lifeng this weekend

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Tuesday said he would meet with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng this weekend ahead of a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping next

week.



Bessent told a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee that Trump and Xi would continue discussions on Iran and China's financial links to Tehran, which Washington has been seeking to shut out of Western financial systems.



The Treasury secretary said U.S. officials had been in talks with China about a crackdown on countries supporting Iran.



"With China, we have had some very good private discussions, and I look forward to those continuing this weekend when I meet my Chinese counterpart, the Vice Minister Lifeng, and I'm sure it will continue during President Xi's state visit," Bessent told lawmakers during the hearing.
