9 killed in highway collision in E. Turkiye near Iran border

Nine people were killed and five others injured Saturday night in a traffic accident in eastern Turkiye's Van province near the Iranian border, Turkish media said.

According to the private Ihlas News Agency, a truck collided with a passenger minibus bearing Iranian license plates on the Van-Ozalp highway at around 19:30 local time (1630 GMT).

The minibus was destroyed in the collision.

The dead included five women. The five injured were taken to hospital after receiving treatment at the scene.

The identities of the casualties have not yet been released.

Van Governor Ozan Balci said preliminary findings indicated that heavy rain and slippery road conditions caused the accident.
