MTR report mainatance failure reason for delay in communte
After the MTR problem yesterday, when thousand of commuters had to look for alternative transport to work, Chan Han-pan, Chairman of the Legislative Council's Transport Panel, stated that it has decided to establish a railway affairs task force to follow up on the incident and has recommended investigating from the perspectives of training, internal monitoring, and procedures.
In a radio program, Chan stated that the cause of the accident is estimated to be the failure to properly close the signal box, or a collision between a maintenance vehicle and signal equipment.
He urged the MTR to install an artificial intelligence system to detect objects on the tracks and to strengthen staff training.
He also suggested that the MTR stop trains earlier on long holidays or days with lower passenger traffic to allow the engineering team time for more extensive maintenance.
