Jamaica facing nationwide power outage
Jamaica is experiencing an island-wide power blackout, Energy Minister Daryl Vaz said on Friday evening in a post on social media, without providing a reason for the outage.
National energy supplier, Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), confirmed the outage affected the entire island and said it was investigating the causes of the blackout.
A company spokesperson told Reuters that JPS was taking steps to restore electricity, with reports indicating power had already returned to some parts of the island.
In his social media post, Vaz said power would be restored across the island nation by the end of the night, and confirmed that "some places have already started receiving power."
