Mohsen Rezaei appointed as secretary of Iran's top security body

Mohsen Rezaei was appointed on Sunday as the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).



In a post on social media platform X, Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy for communications at the Iranian president's office, said Rezaei, who is also a military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, was appointed to the post following a decree by President Masoud Pezeshkian.



He added Rezaei's appointment came after Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, the SNSC's former secretary who had served in the post since March, resigned from the position to take up a new role.



Earlier in the day, Iran's supreme leader, in a decree, appointed Zolqadr as his political advisor.



He also appointed Rezaei as his representative in the SNSC.



Rezaei, 72, is also a member of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council.



He was the chief commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps between 1981 and 1997.
