Albania steps up efforts to contain widespread wildfires
Nine wildfire hotspots remained active across Albania on Wednesday as firefighters and military personnel continued efforts to contain fires in several parts of the country, the Albanian Telegraphic Agency reported.
Albania's Ministry of Defence said that 25 wildfires had been recorded nationwide over the previous 24 hours, prompting the deployment of 41 firefighting vehicles, 395 operational personnel and 167 Armed Forces personnel.
The Kruja area, about 30 km north of the capital Tirana, remained one of the main areas of concern. Firefighting teams were working in the Abaze and Kraste-Halil areas, with military personnel and helicopters deployed near homes as a precaution.
