Niamey airport operations continue normally following security incidents
Operations at Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey are continuing normally following security incidents in the Nigerien capital overnight from Friday to Saturday, the National Agency of Civil Aviation said on Saturday.
In a letter to the heads of various airport-related agencies, Hamadou Ousseini Ibrahim, director general of the civil aviation agency, urged them to "ensure the continuity of services under their respective structures."
The announcement came after gunfire and explosions were heard in several parts of Niamey overnight, including near Diori Hamani International Airport and the presidential palace, according to witnesses and several international media outlets.
