UN chief condemns bomb attack in Pakistan

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday strongly condemned the bomb attack at a mosque in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that happened earlier in the day.

"The secretary-general underscores that attacks targeting civilians and places of worship are unacceptable, and calls for those responsible to be brought to justice," Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson of the UN chief, told reporters.

"He expresses the solidarity of the United Nations with the people and government of Pakistan in their efforts to address terrorism and extremism," Dujarric added.

At least 16 people were killed and over 50 others injured in a twin suicide attack inside a residential compound of police in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, police and rescue officials said.
