Sri Lankan navy seizes over 839 kg of drugs

Sri Lanka's Navy seized over 839 kg of drugs, including 670 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 156 kg of heroin, and 12 kg of hashish during a special search operation in the southern seas.

The narcotics, packed in 51 sacks and abandoned at sea, were detected by the navy and brought to the Tangalle Fisheries Harbor for inspection.

According to the Navy, the seizure followed several days of joint operations by Eastern and Southern Naval Commands.

The navy said the government remains firmly committed to eradicating the drug menace, which poses a major threat to public and national security.

Sri Lanka is conducting a nationwide anti-drug operation under the guidance of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, bringing together security and law enforcement agencies for coordinated actions against drug trafficking.

The seized narcotics have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further legal proceeding.
