Bulgaria seizes nearly 740 kg of marijuana
Bulgarian authorities have seized 739.21 kg of marijuana worth 7.07 million U.S. dollars at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the country's border with Turkiye, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said on Thursday.
The illicit drug was discovered on Tuesday in a vehicle with Polish registration, transporting vacuum cleaners from Poland and Bulgaria to Turkiye, the NCA said.
The driver of the vehicle, a 49-year-old Polish citizen, was arrested. An investigation is underway.
According to the NCA, the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint is a major land border between the European Union and Asia, and the marijuana price in Turkiye was around three times higher than in Bulgaria.
