11 killed, 10 injured in road accident in Egypt

Eleven people were killed and 10 others injured in a two-vehicle crash on Friday on a desert highway in Egypt's Minya governorate, according to a security source.

The source told Xinhua that the authorities received a tip about a major collision between a truck and a pickup truck.

Security forces and ambulances rushed to the scene, and the victims were sent to nearby hospitals.

The debris has been cleared to restore the flow of traffic, while an initial investigation has been launched to determine the reasons behind the crash.

Road accidents claim thousands of lives in Egypt each year, primarily due to speeding, traffic law violations, and poor road conditions. In recent years, Egypt has been upgrading its road network to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety.
