Sweden unveils 957-mln-USD anti-drone air defense system

Sweden on Thursday announced an investment in a new artillery-based air defense system aimed at countering drone threats, as the country seeks to strengthen its air defense capabilities amid evolving security challenges.

At a press conference, Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson said the new system, known as Gute II, will provide a mobile and modular air defense solution capable of protecting both military units and critical civilian infrastructure.

The investment amounts to around 8.7 billion Swedish kronor (about 957 million U.S. dollars), with deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

"It is more important than ever to invest in air defense capabilities," Jonson said.
