Afghanistan launches oil extraction in Amu Darya Basin

Afghanistan has launched oil extraction from five wells in Zamrad Sai area of Amu Darya oil basin in the northern Jawzjan province, the country's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said in a statement on Tuesday.

The wells are currently yielding about 500 cubic meters of oil per day, according to the statement.

Over the past six months alone, 400 km of new seismic surveys were conducted in Zamrad Sai area, resulting in the discovery of additional oil and gas prospects.

Following three years of intensive geological surveys, research, and drilling carried out by Afghan engineers, pilot production has now started in five of the twelve wells in the field.

Authorities said comprehensive plans are now being implemented for the systematic management and exploitation of natural resources by Afghan specialists.

The Afghan government has signed multiple contracts with both domestic and foreign companies aimed at expanding the extraction of oil, gas, and minerals across the impoverished country.
