1 killed, 4 injured in arson attacks targeting Greek ruling party officials
One person was killed and four others were injured in three coordinated incendiary attacks early Wednesday targeting the homes of officials from Greece's ruling New Democracy party in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, authorities said.
The pre-dawn gas-canister attacks targeted the homes of three ruling party figures, including Zisis Ioakeimovits, president of the party's administrative committee in Thessaloniki, former lawmaker Savvas Anastasiadis, and political candidate Afroditi Nestora, police said.
Nestora's mother died in hospital after suffering severe burns, while the other victims were treated for burns or smoke inhalation, according to Greek national broadcaster ERT.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis condemned what he described as "cowardly, murderous attacks" and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
New Democracy spokesperson Alexandra Sdoukou and opposition parties also condemned the attacks.
