Australian teenager charged over alleged plans to cause harm

Australian counter-terrorism police have charged a teenager from the northeastern state of Queensland over alleged plans to cause death or bodily harm.



The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement on Tuesday that detectives from the counter-terrorism investigation group executed a search warrant at a home in the town of Maryborough, 220 km north of Brisbane, in August and seized electronic devices and other items.



A teenage boy was subsequently charged with one count each of acts in preparation to cause death or grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place and possession of violent extremist material.



"There is no ongoing threat to the public, and investigations are continuing," the QPS said, adding that there is no place in Queensland for hate and violence.

The boy will make an initial appearance at a local children's court on Tuesday
