4 killed, 10 injured in road accident in southern Peru

Four people were killed and at least 10 others injured on Tuesday morning when three vehicles collided on the southern Pan-American Highway in Peru's Arequipa region.

The crash occurred in the Chira sector of Camana Province and involved an interprovincial bus, a pickup and a heavy cargo truck, state-run Andina news agency reported.

The bus, operated by Julsa, departed the country's capital, Lima, on Monday afternoon for the city of Arequipa, while the pickup was operating as a shared taxi serving the Secocha mining area.

Police said the pickup was completely crushed between the trailer of the cargo truck, which was traveling from north to south, and the interprovincial bus, which was heading in the opposite direction.

The National Police and firefighters rushed to the scene to help the injured, who were taken to Camana Hospital for treatment.
