Germany, Jordan call for Gaza truce compliance

Germany and Jordan on Wednesday called for full compliance with the current Gaza truce and efforts towards a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel based on a two-state solution, the Jordanian foreign ministry said.

The statement followed a meeting between Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and visiting German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

The two ministers also called for the immediate and adequate delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of Gaza and affirmed continued cooperation between their countries in these efforts, the statement said.

Wadephul expressed "deep concern" following the deadliest night of bombing in Gaza since a U.S.-brokered truce went into effect earlier this month.

"We appeal to Israel to exercise military restraint in order to prevent further suffering," Wadephul said in a ministry statement released ahead of his trip to Amman. Jordan is the first stop of Wadephul's Middle East tour, which will also take him to Lebanon and Bahrain.
