Egypt pledges support for Gaza administration committee
Egypt's General Intelligence Service Chief Hassan Rashad pledged support on Saturday for the newly-formed Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with administering the Gaza Strip, state-run Al-Qahera News reported.
In a meeting with committee head Ali Abdel Hamid Shaath and other members, Rashad reaffirmed Egypt's continued commitment to ensuring the committee's success in carrying out its duties, according to the report.
For his part, Shaath expressed his appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting the Palestinian people, halting the forced displacement of Palestinians, and preserving the Palestinian cause.
The meeting also discussed steps for the Palestinian committee to assume full administrative control in Gaza, Al-Qahera News said.
The formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee was announced on Wednesday, hours after a meeting of Palestinian factions and political forces in Cairo, coinciding with Washington's announcement of the commencement of the second phase of the U.S.-proposed Gaza peace plan.
