Argentina's Senate voted down a bill on Wednesday that would have barred individuals convicted of corruption from holding public office. The legislation, which opposition figures had said was aimed at sidelining former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner from future national races, was backed by 36 senators, while 35 voted against. It fell short of the 37 votes required to become law.
