A total of five people were killed in a deadly traffic accident on the highway in the Slovenian region of Styria, and all the victims were foreign citizens, the Celje Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday.
The fatal accident took place on Wednesday morning when a van collided with a truck near the Tepanje rest area in the direction of the Slovenian capital, causing significant delays on the highway, the police said.
The Celje Police Department initially reported four fatalities and two injuries. However, authorities later confirmed that a fifth victim had succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
As part of the highway remained closed until further notice, and long traffic queues formed, the police called on drivers to use regional roads to avoid extended delays.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, the police said.
