For three consecutive days (August 1-3), a task force from the Enforcement and Control Division of Traffic Kowloon East Region conducted a crackdown on drink-driving and driving while suspended. During the operation, nine drivers were arrested and five were issued verbal warnings. All arrested drivers have been released on bail pending investigation and are required to report to the police later this month (August).
Police emphasized that they will continue to strengthen law enforcement and urge all drivers to be aware that drink-driving, speeding, and dangerous driving are serious offenses that carry potential penalties of imprisonment and license suspension upon conviction. Police also reiterated that driving while suspended and driving without third-party insurance are serious offenses, each punishable by a fine of HK$10,000 and 12 months' imprisonment upon conviction. Police will continue to strengthen law enforcement to combat these offenses and urge drivers not to defy the law.
