A Palestinian journalist was killed on Saturday by Israeli army in the northern Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian sources.
Medical sources told Xinhua that Khaled al-Madhoun, a cameraman for the official Palestine TV channel in the Gaza Strip, died after being shot by the Israeli army.
Eyewitnesses reported that al-Madhoun was killed while covering events at the Zikim crossing, west of the town of Beit Lahia in the north of Gaza.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said in a statement that "targeting journalists is an ongoing crime in an attempt to obscure the truth, but it will not succeed in breaking the resolve of the Palestinian media heroes who continue to carry out their mission despite all the risks."
With the killing of al-Madhoun, the number of Palestinian journalists killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war on Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 240, according to the syndicate.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on this incident.
Israel has been waging a large-scale war in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, following an unprecedented attack by Hamas on southern Israel, which, according to Israeli authorities, resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the capture of 251 hostages.
According to authorities in the Gaza Strip, the war has resulted in the deaths of over 62,100 Palestinians and caused extensive destruction of buildings and infrastructure.
