Chief Executive John Lee led a delegation to Beijing to participate in the 80th anniversary commemorations of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. He noted that the approximately 360 members of the Hong Kong delegation made up a significant portion of the spectators, fully demonstrating the central government's importance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Lee posted on social media, stating that Hong Kong is entering a critical period of "governing and prospering," and that society must learn from history and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests. This military parade marks the first in a new journey of comprehensively advancing Chinese-style modernization. Many new equipment were displayed publicly for the first time, fully demonstrating the formidable capabilities of the national military.
Legislative Council President Andrew Leung said the parade made him deeply realize that national security is the foundation of a healthy home. As an integral part of the country, Hong Kong must safeguard national security, resolutely uphold national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, strengthen patriotic education, and rally support for patriotism and love for Hong Kong, ensuring the steady and long-term development of "One Country, Two Systems." Commissioner of Police Chow Yiu-ming expressed pride in the country's strength and peaceful development, emphasizing that the police force's mission is to safeguard national security and social stability, and to create a brighter future for national development.
