Chinese envoy asks for efforts to eliminate hunger through development

        A Chinese envoy on Friday called for efforts to eliminate hunger through development and the resolution of military conflicts.
        
        Development is essential for solving various global issues, Wu Haitao, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, said at a debate of the Security Council on hunger and conflict.
        
        The UN system should push for the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and take as its priority the elimination of poverty and hunger, he said, adding that the UN should continue to increase investment to help with development in developing countries.
        
        He said, the United Nations, its Security Council and the international community as a whole should have a sense of urgency in the pollical settlement of conflicts.
