In recent years, the FEHD has actively promoted green burials, including organizing guided tours of memorial gardens, where visitors can watch the guides demonstrate the scattering of ashes.

Citizens who choose green burials can scatter ashes in three designated sea areas or different memorial parks in Hong Kong. There are currently 13 memorial gardens under the FEHD. The Tsang Tsui Memorial Garden is not only the largest in Hong Kong, but also has a ceremony room for citizens to hold a simple memorial ceremony before scattering ashes. There is also an art installation called "Ferry", which means sending the family's thoughts to the other side of the ancestor, allowing citizens to send letters of their thoughts to express their thoughts. As for the smoke-free columbarium and memorial garden in Shek Mun, Shatin, it will be opened in the third quarter of this year.

The FEHD said that as of the end of May this year, a total of more than 15,800 citizens have registered in the Green Burial Central Registration Register, and among the deceased registrants, Finally, the proportion of green burials reached 70%. Even if citizens did not register during their lifetime, their descendants can arrange green burials for their ancestors.

Last year, the utilization rate of green burials reached a record high of 18.2%, of which 8,522 cases used memorial gardens and 1,032 cases scattered ashes at sea.

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department provides free ferry services for scattering ashes at sea every Saturday. The hull design was changed last month, hoping to increase the ritual sense of scattering ashes.
