Philippine protest over permission for security forces to enter university

28/11/2023 18:54
The Philippines will hold a press conference on Tuesday on mediated talks between the government and communist rebels, an official of a leftist group said.

The briefing would announce the outcome of talks that took place on Nov. 23, including possible resumption of peace negotiations, said Ricardo Lozano, media officer of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, the political wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

Formal talks were last conducted in 2017 but were acrimoniously terminated by then-President Rodrigo Duterte, whose bid to revive negotiations also failed.
He left office in mid-2022 and was replaced by Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The media briefing comes less than a week after Marcos issued an order granting amnesty to several rebel groups, including former members of the communist movement.
