Von der Leyen names new European Commission

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen picked Spanish politician Teresa Ribera as the bloc's next antitrust commissioner while Andrius Kubilius from Lithuania will be handed a newly created defence portfolio, the Commission said on Tuesday.
Other names on the list of 27 EU Commissioners governing the bloc's executive include Henna Virkkunen as security and tech sovereignty while Stephane Sejourne will oversee industrial strategy.
All candidates will undergo hearings with lawmakers in the European Parliament who have to sign off on their nomination.
