Pakistani gov't announces 44 tariff cut for EV charging stations

16/1/2025 15:42
The Pakistani government announced a 44 percent reduction in electricity tariffs for electric vehicle charging stations to attract investments in the sector.

Minister for Power Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari made the announcement here on Wednesday lowering the rate from 71 rupees per unit to 39.70 rupees per unit.

The decision is part of the Pakistani government's broader initiative to promote electric mobility and reduce reliance on expensive fossil fuels, said the minister, adding that the government has set a target of achieving 30 percent electric vehicle adoption by 2030.

The minister said the new discounted tariff is expected to cut travel costs by up to three-fold compared to petrol and other fuels, also reducing fares and reliance on imported fuel.

According to the minister, an estimated ten million motorcycles in Pakistan are currently consuming six billion U.S. dollars annually on fuel, and the government is encouraging a shift toward electric motorcycles.
