A private doctor participating in the COVID-19 vaccination program vaccinated citizens with COVID-19 vaccines that exceeded the recommended use date. The 21 residents and staff of nursing homes for the elderly and disabled who were affected did not feel unwell. The Department of Health is investigating the incident and suspending the doctor involved from participating in the vaccination service under the vaccination program.
When the Department of Health checked the vaccine ordering and vaccination records, it was found that the doctor involved went to an elderly home called "Aide Elderly Home Limited" in Yuen Long District on June 14, July 7 and July 9 to provide vaccination services, and vaccinated 18 residents with Moderna JN.1 COVID-19 vaccines that exceeded the recommended use date. After further investigation, the Department of Health found that the doctor also went to a nursing home for the disabled called "Kwai Hin Court" in Kwai Tsing District on March 26 to provide vaccination services, and vaccinated one resident and two staff of the home with Moderna JN.1 COVID-19 vaccines that exceeded the recommended use date.
The Department of Health is highly concerned about the incident and is following up on the health of the affected persons immediately. The relevant COVID-19 vaccines have not exceeded their expiration date. The Department has carefully considered the COVID-19 vaccination status and COVID-19 infection history of the affected persons and recommends that the affected persons do not need to be re-vaccinated. The Department has inspected the two institutions involved, checked the vaccine storage and vaccination procedures, and asked the institutions and doctors involved to immediately improve vaccine management measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
