Israeli army says intercepted missile from Yemen

2/8/2025 6:14
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it successfully intercepted a missile launched from Yemen towards Israeli territory on Friday evening.

Israel's national emergency service, Magen David Adom, said in a statement that there were no reports of hits or casualties.

The IDF issued an alert shortly after the launch, and about five minutes later, air defense sirens were heard in wide areas of central and southern Israel, including West Jerusalem, sending residents rushing to shelters.

Following the launch, Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv was temporarily shut down for landings and takeoffs.

Later in the day, Yemen's Houthi group said in a statement aired by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV that it launched a "hypersonic ballistic" targeting Ben Gurion International Airport, and that the attack "achieved its goal," forcing thousands of Israelis "to run for shelters and halt air traffic."

The group vowed to launch more attacks until "aggression on Gaza stops and the blockade is lifted."
