The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Saturday strongly opposed and decried the untrue and biased remarks by the United States and members of the Group of Seven Rapid Response Mechanism (G7 RRM) as well as G7 RRM associate members on the HKSAR's lawful act to pursue wanted persons who have endangered national security and absconded from Hong Kong.
The 19 absconders are suspected of having committed offences under the national security law in Hong Kong by organizing, establishing, or participating in, outside the HKSAR, a subversive organization named the "Hong Kong Parliament," said a spokesperson for the HKSAR government. The court has, upon application by the Hong Kong Police Force, issued arrest warrants against these 19 persons at large.
The HKSAR government has the responsibility to pursue, in accordance with the law, persons suspected of having committed offences in violation of the national security law in Hong Kong or other offences endangering national security outside Hong Kong, said the spokesperson.
"Any suggestion that certain individuals or organizations should be immune from legal consequences for their illegal acts is no different from advocating a special privilege to break the law, and this totally runs contrary to the spirit of the rule of law," said the spokesperson.
On Saturday, a spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR also expressed firm opposition and strongly condemned G7 RRM members for smearing the Police's law enforcement actions.
The spokesperson said the anti-China elements attempted to subvert state power. They seriously violated the national security law in Hong Kong and must be severely punished.
The spokesperson urged relevant countries to immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs, which are China's internal affairs, under any pretext.
