5 killed, 1 missing after flash floods in Indonesia

Five people were killed and another went missing after flash floods swept through a river in Indonesia's Aceh province on Sunday, a local rescuer said.



"The incident took place as the victims were swimming in the Cot Kuala River in Pidie regency, when sudden floods carried them away," said Ibnu Harris Al Hussain, head of the provincial search and rescue office.



"Rescuers found five victims dead, while one remains missing," the official told Xinhua, adding that heavy rains in the upstream area triggered the floods.



Search and rescue operations were carried out by local personnel but were halted after nightfall and will resume on Monday.
