US remains committed to Poland, Polish minister says after Hegseth call

The United States remains committed to its military presence in Poland, the Polish defence minister said on Tuesday after a call with his U.S. counterpart

Pete Hegseth, as he sought to downplay news about the cancellation of a deployment of troops.



The Pentagon has cancelled plans to deploy 4,000 U.S.-based troops to Poland, a move that left the Polish government scrambling to reassure its citizens that relations with Warsaw's most powerful ally remained solid.



"The U.S. Secretary of War confirmed that the United States' commitment to Poland's defence and security remains unchanged," Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X after his conversation with Hegseth.



"The process of redeploying U.S. military forces and assets in Europe is underway, but no decision has been made to reduce U.S. military capabilities in Poland," he added.
