Man arrested after explosives seized from east Australian home

A man has been arrested after police seized explosives, a firearm and ammunition from a home in the eastern Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).



The NSW Police Force said in a statement Monday that a search warrant was executed at a home in the city of Wagga Wagga, 380 km southwest of Sydney, on Thursday after officers located small quantities of cocaine and MDMA during a search of a 30-year-old man.



During the search of the home, police allegedly located two improvised explosive devices.



The bomb disposal unit was deployed and the location was subsequently declared safe.



The search resumed and officers allegedly found a privately made firearm, ammunition, cannabis seeds and testosterone.



The 30-year-old man was charged with 16 offenses, including two counts of manufacturing military-style weapons without a permit, which carry a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment.



Police said he was refused bail during an initial court appearance on Friday and will return to court in October.
