Sushi Express launches probe over worm allegation at Tsuen Wan branch

The chain restaurant Sushi Express has launched an internal investigation after an alleged finding of a wriggling worm on a sushi roll at its Tsuen Wan branch.

The incident came to light after a customer’s post on Threads last Friday (Aug 21), claiming he spotted something moving on a Salmon Rose Sushi at the Nina Mall branch.

The customer said staff denied it was a worm even as he repeatedly pointed to the "moving object," prompting him to leave without a purchase.

Following the incident, the sushi chain published a statement on Sunday, confirming an investigation has been launched, with related samples sent for testing.

The company stressed its commitment to prioritizing food safety, adding that further updates will be announced in due time once the results are out.

It is not the first time Sushi Express has been involved in a food safety issue, as another customer discovered mold on its “Tamagoyaki with seasoned fish roe crispy roll” from its Yuen Long MTR station branch last year.
