Fresh off his return from a nearly year-long hiatus with “Just Like The Wind” (original Japanese title: 風になれるはず), imase will release his new 8-track digital EP “Hatena” (original Japanese title: はてな).
Titled “Hatena”—meaning ‘question mark’ in Japanese—the EP brings together songs born from the time imase had to pause, reflect, and simply think during his hiatus. While retaining the pop sensibility that has always defined his music, the EP reveals a more introspective and human side of imase, with lyrics that, for the first time, candidly express his own emotions and thoughts. The time away also gave him the opportunity to absorb a wide range of new influences, resulting in a richer, more colorful sound and an expanded musical palette.
Focus track “Service Area” (original Japanese title: サービスエリア) features sound production by acclaimed Japanese producer Yaffle, known for his work on many of Fujii Kaze’s best-known tracks. With euphoric vocal harmonies and shimmering synths reminiscent of ’80s pop, the track is a warm, uplifting love song.
