9/7/2025 18:34
The death toll from the passenger ship that capsized in Indonesia's Bali Strait last Wednesday has risen to 12, as search operations continue for 23 missing persons, officials said on Wednesday.

Ribut Eko Suyanto, deputy for search and rescue operations at the National Search and Rescue Agency, reported that two bodies were discovered on Wednesday morning by fishermen along the coast of Bali Island. This brings the total number of confirmed fatalities to 12, while 30 others were saved.

Search efforts resumed on Wednesday, covering the air, sea surface, and underwater areas. A remotely operated vehicle from the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has been deployed for underwater detection, according to KNKT head Soejanto Tjahjono.

The wooden vessel, carrying 53 passengers and 12 crew members, was traveling from Ketapang Seaport in Banyuwangi, East Java, to Gilimanuk Seaport in Jembrana Regency, Bali, when it sank last Wednesday.
