A total of 1,000 houses had been built and handed over to families affected by earthquakes in eastern Afghanistan's Paktika province, the state-owned Bakhtar news agency reported on Monday.
The newly constructed houses, built with an allocation of 7.8 million U.S. dollars funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Gayan district of the province, Bakhtar quoted Mawlawi Hamdullah Fateh, provincial director of refugees and repatriation department, as saying.
While delivering these houses to the affected families, the official stated that they have also been provided with a hospital, religious school and additional facilities.
In 2022, a catastrophic earthquake in the Gayan district rendered thousands of families homeless. The tragedy has claimed the lives of 1,000 individuals, with more than 1,500 others sustaining injuries.
