One dead in light plane crash west of Sydney

A man has died after being critically injured in a light plane crash west of Sydney in Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW).



Police said in a statement that emergency services were called to reports of a light plane crash in the small town of Balranald, some 700 km west of Sydney, at around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday.



Emergency services arrived at the scene and located a man, believed to be aged in his 50s, in critical condition. He was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics but could not be revived.



There were no other reported injuries.



Police established a crime scene and will prepare a report on the man's death for the NSW Coroner.



An investigation into the crash will be undertaken by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
