Peru extends state of emergency to combat crime in Lima

21/11/2025 7:57
The Peruvian government has extended for 30 days the "state of emergency" declared last October in the capital city of Lima and the neighboring province of Callao, local media reported Thursday.

The measure, which will take effect from Nov. 21, aims to strengthen actions against crime and other forms of violence that affect internal order, said the country's official news outlet El Peruano.

The National Police of Peru will maintain control over internal order, with support from the Armed Forces, and determine intervention zones based on intelligence and other technical instruments to combat high-impact crimes, according to El Peruano.
